SENIOR ACCOUNTANT, BULGARIA (VARNA)

Our client, a dynamically growing international retail chain with 1700+ stores in Ukraine and over 50 in Romania, is entering the Bulgarian market and is looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Accountant in Bulgaria (Varna)
About the RoleThe Senior Accountant will act as the main link between the Romanian HQ, the outsourced accounting & payroll provider, and local retail stores. This role ensures accuracy and compliance in financial reporting, manages reconciliations, and provides timely financial insights to management.

Key Responsibilities:
Coordination & Communication
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and the outsourced accounting firm.
  • Coordinate with store managers to ensure timely submission of documents and compliance with financial procedures.
  • Act as a contact point with suppliers to resolve invoicing, payment, and reconciliation issues.
  • Support the Romanian finance team with local reporting requirements.
Accounting Oversight
  • Review accounting entries, reconciliations, and reports prepared by the outsourced provider.
  • Check payroll-related tax and social contribution calculations for compliance.
Controls & Reconciliations
  • Reconcile cash registers & POS vs. bank and accounting records.
  • Reconcile inventory movements with accounting records.
  • Ensure accurate intercompany balance reconciliations.
  • Verify supplier and customer balances.
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Maintain electronic document flow via SharePoint.
  • Keep accurate records of supplier and service contracts.
  • Ensure proper filing and archiving of financial and administrative documents.

  • Candidate Profile:
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in retail or FMCG.
  • Strong knowledge of Bulgarian accounting standards.
  • Proven expertise in reconciliations and financial controls.
  • Experience working with outsourced accounting providers (a strong plus).
  • Proficiency in Excel; knowledge of ERP systems (MS Dynamics 365 BC is an advantage).
  • Fluency in Bulgarian and English.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
